At the end of October, 2007, Shoel Silver became Chair of the Budget and Finance Committee of the Jewish Agency for Israel. Until October, 2007, he served as Co-Chair of the Partnerships Subcommittee of the Israel Committee. He was formerly Co-Chair of the Budget and Finance Subcommittee on Allocations. He is a current member of the Jewish Agency Executive and Board of Governors, the Committee on the Unity of the Jewish People, and the Comptroller’s Committee of Keren Hayesod.
From 2003 to 2005, Shoel served as National President of UIA Federations Canada, the umbrella body of Canadian Jewish Federations and Regional (unfederated) communities. He has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Canada-Israel Committee, and currently serves on the Board of the Canadian Council for Israel and Jewish Advocacy (CIJA) and the Israel & Overseas Committee of UJA Federation of Greater Toronto. He is also the President of the Canadian Friends of the Menachem Begin Heritage Foundation, and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Jerusalem Foundation of Canada.
Shoel graduated in law and political science from the University of Toronto, and is a member of the Ontario and California Bars. He is the Chief Executive Officer of The Metrontario Group, a real estate development and investment company with interests in Canada, Israel and the United States, and the president of the Nathan and Lily Silver Family Foundation. He is married to Eileen and has three children.
