The Gita Community Village, situated in the Maale Yosef Regional Council [link to http://www.outreach.umich.edu/Partnership2000/Britain/community/] , was founded in 1980. It presently numbers 214 residents (65 families), two-thirds of which are new immigrants from the Former Soviet Union. With new housing underway, Gita is set to double its population within a couple of years.
Several Gita residents have established home-based businesses, with most of the others commuting to Acco, Nahariya or Haifa for work.
