The shaliach teaches one or more subjects in the field of Hebrew, Jewish subjects or 'religious subjects' as they are known in some educational institutions. This field includes: Hebrew, Tanach, Oral law, Jewish History, teaching Israel, tradition prayer and Hebrew literature. The purpose of teaching Israel is to strengthen the bond between the state of Israel and overseas communities. The teacher-Shaliach serves as an ambassador for Israel in the school, and a figure with whom the students can identify.
Shlichut Requirements: IDF or National Service graduate, at least three years teaching experience in the education system alternatively, holder of a temporary teaching license and five years teaching experience, be fluent in the language of the country of assignment, extensive knowledge in the area of Jewish and/or Israel studies, Teaching certificate or BED or BA degree, or equivalent certificate in Torah education.
Period of Shlichut: Two years, with an option for a one-year extension.
